If Roomba® is no longer picking up debris or is leaving clumps of hair or debris on the floor, please use the following information to improve performance.
Floor Conditioning Process
In homes with heavily shedding pets, the bin may fill quickly with hair and re-deposit it on the floor. In these environments, Roomba® must go through a floor conditioning process.
You can help Roomba® along by scheduling it to clean frequently and emptying the bin when the light ring around the CLEAN Button turns red, sweeps to the rear of the robot and flashes twice. After this conditioning process, you'll enjoy consistent cleaning performance from your Roomba®. For best performance, be sure to continue emptying the robot's bin and cleaning the filter when the full bin indicator illuminates.
Red sweep toward rear: Empty the bin.
As an additional option, you can change the settings in the iRobot® HOME App to pause a cleaning job immediately when the bin becomes full. This will prevent the robot from overfilling and re-depositing debris as it drives, but may stop cleaning jobs before they are finished. To activate this feature, in the iRobot® HOME App, select Settings ➤ Finish cleaning when bin is full.
Cleaning Pass Settings
In most cases, Roomba® will remove dirt and debris with just one pass over each area of your home. Two cleaning passes may be particularly helpful in homes with pets or for periodic deep cleaning. When automatic mode is active, Roomba® intelligently chooses to use two or more passes for a single small room or one pass if cleaning a larger space. This setting can be helpful for those who clean in varying sized spaces. When placed in a smaller room, Roomba® can choose to do more cleaning passes without concern for battery depletion. Use the iRobot® HOME App and select Settings ➤ Cleaning Preferences ➤ Automatic to activate automatic mode.
Increasing Vacuum Power
If debris is being left on the floor, there may be a need to increase the robot's vacuum power. In the iRobot® HOME app, click on Settings, then go to Cleaning Preferences. You will have three options to select from
Detailed Clean: Just right for thorough, everyday cleaning. Vacuum may appear louder as it runs on carpet, and battery run time could be shorter than expected, around 20-30 minutes before needing to charge.
Quiet Clean: Lower power for quieter operation. Roomba® will run longer and reach more areas within your home before needing to recharge and resume cleaning. Pickup performance may not be as thorough as with "Detailed Clean" and the vacuum power will not increase as it would with a "Detailed Clean".
Custom: Your choice. With custom clean, you decide what vacuum power you want. Toggle the selector all the way to the left for lowest vacuum power. In the middle will give you a bit more vacuum power, and toggling the selector to the right will provide exceptional cleaning power for the best possible clean in smaller spaces. Battery power may decrease based on your selection in custom mode.
We suggest using custom and increasing the vacuum power all the way up. You should see a change in debris pick up. With this setting selected, you may also see a decrease in vacuum power, as the robot will need to use more battery to keep the increased vacuum power going.
Rubber Brushes, Vacuum Path, and Filter Care
If the problem persists, please watch the video or use the following information to clean the robot's filter, extractors, and vacuum path.
Inspect the Multi-Surface Brushes after every cleaning cycle. Use the following procedure to regularly clean the multi-surface brushes.
Rubber Brushes and Vacuum Path
Open the cleaning head module door by pushing on the gray tab on the right side of the multi-surface brushes
Match the shape of the multi-surface brushes pegs with the shape on the cleaning head module
Cleaning Head Module Care
For optimal performance, the cleaning head module should be regularly cleaned. Use the following procedure to maintain these items.
Open the Cleaning Head Module door by pushing on the gray tab on the right side of the multi-surface brushes
Remove the brushes from the robot and ensure hair and debris is removed from the square and hex pegs of the multi-surface brushes
Clear debris on and under the gray bearings
Insert the bearings on the Multi-Surface Brushes
Ensure the vacuum path is clear
Match the shape of the multi-surface brushes pegs with the shape on the Cleaning Head Module
Filter
Use the following procedure to regularly clean the bin.
Press the bin release button on the back of the robot to remove the bin. The bin release tab has a bin icon on it.
Open the bin door to empty the bin. The bin door release button has a bin icon.
Grasp the side of the filter to remove the filter from the left side of the bin
