When does this error occur?
Error 1010 occurs when your robot is returning to the dock during or after a mission and can no longer move across the space it had previously crossed to find the dock.
What causes Error 1010?
This error may occur when a new obstacle is in your robot's path, or a door on your robot's route back to the dock was closed during its mission. Other potential causes of Error 1010 include moving the dock to a different location, unplugging the dock, or completely covering the dock during your robot's mission. Strong reflections or conflicting lighting that interferes with the docking sensors can prevent your robot from identifying the dock. Your robot may be able to successfully find its home location, but due to any of the reasons mentioned above, it cannot see or find the dock.
This does not always happen when your robot is headed to the dock, as it could also occur when your robot is returning to its starting location. If your robot is unable to detect the dock at its expected location, it might search for it nearby.
Error 1010 does not occur when a room is too dark for your robot to find its way.
You can take the following steps to prevent Error 1010 from occurring:
- Clear all obstacles and open all doors in your robot's path, provide proper lighting, and ensure that your robot can find the Visual Docking Target or infrared (IR) window on the dock
- Please ensure there were no changes or edits to your Smart Map
When cleaning everywhere, your robot will try to update its smart map with any new areas or obstacles. When on a Direct Room Cleaning mission, the robot uses the last saved map. If the issue persists, there is a small chance that a recent update could have corrupted your map, affecting Roomba's ability to navigate.
Click here to see how to revert or update your Smart Map to a previous version:
1. Go into your History and select a Clean Map® Report that you like from a previous cleaning job
2. Then select the three dots in the top right corner and choose "Update Smart Map" to complete the process
Note: You cannot undo an update, but you can perform additional updates using a different Clean Map™ Report.
A robot error during the mission could prevent this feature from working. If the robot cannot finish a mission successfully, try another mapping run.
If this step is not helpful, the next best solution would be to delete your map and start over with a new one.
