What is the Roomba® Room Confinement (RCON) Sensor and how do I know if it's Working?

The Room Confinement Sensor (RCON) allows Roomba® and Braava® to detect compatible accessories, such as the Home Base®, Clean Base® and Virtual Walls®. Use the following procedure to ensure the Room Confinement Sensor is working correctly.

Note: The Roomba® j series robots were not designed with an RCON sensor, as they utilize a front-facing camera

  1. Press and hold the CLEAN button for 3 seconds to clear the previous cleaning jobs.

  2. Verify if your robot can return to the Home Base®/Clean Base® by manually facing the robot toward the Home Base®/Clen Base®, within >6 ft (1.8 m).

  3. Press the CLEAN button to turn on your robot.

  4. Press the Dock button to confirm that your robot attempts to return to the Home Base®/Clean Base® and the docking function is working.

If your robot is not able to dock, contact iRobot Customer Care.

For expedited service, please have the following ready:

  • Your robot charged and with you.
  • Your robot's Serial number.
  • For warranty claims: Proof of purchase (receipt or invoice for purchase from an authorized retailer).
