Error 42 means that your Roomba® or Braava® failed to re-localize during a direct cleaning job using Smart Maps, and the map may also appear to not look correct in the app.
Reasons Why This Error May Occur:
-
Changes to the environment during the cleaning cycle (i.e., closed door, moved furniture)
-
It is possible for Roomba® or Braava® to drive over transitions, such as doorway thresholds, that it cannot drive over again to leave the area. In this case, you may need to use Dual Mode Virtual Wall® Barriers to section off these areas to clean.
-
Not enough adequate lighting (daylight or dim lighting is sufficient) for Roomba® or Braava® to navigate. Extremely dark rooms could obscure the iAdapt® localization camera and cause problems with navigation and coverage.
-
Excessive clutter could contribute to this error. Clear cluttered areas or use Dual Mode Virtual Wall® Barriers to block off problem areas.
-
The camera is covered with dust or debris. If so, wipe the clear window on the top surface using a microfiber or soft cotton cloth that has been lightly dampened with water or a screen cleaning solution.
-
Roomba® or Braava® was picked up and moved to another location while cleaning
Please ensure there were no changes or edits to your Smart Map. Place your Roomba® or Braava® back onto the dock and attempt another direct cleaning job.
When cleaning everywhere, your robot will try to update its smart map with any new areas or obstacles. When on a Direct Room Cleaning mission, the robot uses the last saved map. If the issue persists, there is a small chance that a recent update could have corrupted your map, affecting Roomba's ability to navigate.
Click here to see how to revert or update your Smart Map to a previous version:
1. Go into your History and select a Clean Map® Report that you like from a previous cleaning job
2. Then select the three dots in the bottom right corner and choose "Update Smart Map" to complete the process
Note: You cannot undo an update, but you can perform additional updates using a different Clean Map™ Report.
A robot error during the mission could prevent this feature from working. If the robot cannot finish a mission successfully, try another mapping run.
If this step is not helpful, the next best solution would be to delete your map and start over with a new one.
If the message persists, try moving your Roomba dock/Braava dock to a different location and start Roomba® or Braava® from the dock. Environmental interference may prevent Roomba® or Braava® from navigating as expected. If navigation does not improve, please contact iRobot Customer Care.
