There are a few reasons you might experience this behavior with your Roomba® j Series Robot vacuum, and some simple actions to take.
Model j7
Reduce obstacles as much as possible
- While Roomba® cleans, it is constantly learning and adapting to your environment. Roomba® cleans in a systematic pattern to determine the most efficient way to clean based on what it encounters in the live environment that have been defined as cleaning areas (rooms) on the Imprint™ Smart Map.
- For best results, ensure any clothing items, loose cables, toys, etc. are off the floor before cleaning to ensure a successful cleaning job. You’ll achieve the best results in an environment with minimal clutter.
- Check for a physical barrier/transition that may be impeding Roomba® from entering a space. If so, using a Keep out Zone as a barrier may be a viable solution.
Be aware of Roomba’s battery level and the size of the area to be cleaned
- When Roomba® senses that its battery is low, it will return to its dock to recharge
- If there is more cleaning left to do, Roomba® will automatically continue its cleaning job after 85 minutes of charging
- When Roomba® is charging in the middle of a cleaning job, the Light Ring around the button will be pulsing when it is on the dock, and the iRobot HOME App will indicate that the cleaning job is paused
Ensure the house has adequate light for the robot to navigate
- Dark rooms can be challenging for j7’s iAdapt® localization camera and can impact navigation and coverage
- Daylight or dim lighting is enough for Roomba® j7 to navigate effectively
Ensure you are selecting the rooms you’d like Roomba® to clean
- Your Roomba® j7 Robot vacuum uses iAdapt® 3.0 Navigation Technology, which gives it the ability to create Imprint™ Smart Maps
- Smart Maps give you the ability to make a selection in the iRobot® HOME App to “Clean All” rooms, or to select only specific rooms to clean
- If you want Roomba® to clean the entire level of your home as laid out on your Smart Map, please ensure you are selecting “Clean All”
Clean the sensors
- Turn Roomba® over and use a clean, dry microfiber or soft cotton cloth to wipe any debris that has accumulated in the round iAdapt® Floor Tracking Sensor opening on the right side of the robot's bottom surface. Do not spray cleaning solution directly into the sensor opening.
