Roomba® is powered by a rechargeable battery. The battery can last for hundreds of cleaning cycles if it is cared for properly. You must remove the battery pull tab before Roomba® can charge. Charge the battery overnight before using Roomba® for the first time. Charging time under normal conditions is at least two (2) hours.
Battery Life
To extend battery life, we recommend you keep Roomba® charged. For additional information, visit battery maintenance tips.
Recharge Roomba® as soon as possible following use; waiting several days can damage the battery.
If Roomba® will not be used for more than a few weeks, store the robot in a cool, dry place. Fully charge the battery at least once every six (6) months for optimal performance.
For long-term storage of a robot with a NiMH battery, remove the battery from the robot and store in a cool, dry place. NiMH batteries should be stored after being fully-charged. When you want to use Roomba® again, insert the battery and fully charge it. NiMH batteries can naturally degrade even when stored separately from Roomba®.
Cleaning Time
You should fully charge the battery before each cleaning cycle. When fully charged, the battery light will be green and the battery will last for at least one (1) full clean cycle. With a full charge, Roomba® will clean for approximately 60 minutes.
16-Hour Refresh Charge
If Roomba® has been left off of the Home Base® for an extended period, it will automatically initiate a special 16-hour charge cycle. This extensive charge refreshes the battery and extends battery life. While charging, the
battery indicator pulses quickly. For some models, all indicators on the robot will turn off after one (1) minute of charging. This is normal behavior, designed to conserve energy. For best results, do not interrupt the refresh charge.
Charging Roomba®
To charge Roomba®, connect the line cord to the Home Base® and then dock your robot.
When Roomba® is on the Home Base®, the Home Base® power indicator will either go out after four (4) seconds, or remain solid as it charges.
Indicators
For some robots, all indicators on the robot will go out after approximately one (1) minute of charging. This is normal behavior, designed to conserve energy. The robot will continue to charge and will indicate the battery's status after pressing the CLEAN button to wake up the robot. Use the following battery indicator information to determine the status of the battery.
- Red - Solid: The battery is empty. Please charge Roomba®.
- Red - Flashing: The battery is too low to start cleaning. Please charge Roomba®.
- Amber - Pulse: Roomba® is charging.
- Green - Solid: Roomba® is fully charged.
- Amber - Quick Pulse: Roomba® is in 16-hour refresh charge mode.
