New Feature
Feature Enhancement
-
-
Attention pet owners and anyone with pesky cords on the floor! PrecisionVision™ is now enabled for some objects during Imprint™ Smart Maps: Mapping Runs. During a mapping run, Roomba® will avoid pet waste and cords to help it complete mapping in a single run. It’s still a good idea to do a general pickup of other potential obstacles.
Sent some bugs on a one-way trip to the moon
-
- Improved room divider accuracy
- Fixed an issue causing the iRobot HOME App to close during map editing
- Ensured that obstacle pins for image review are within map boundaries
- Decreased wait time for a Clean Map to be shown in the cleaning history report after a cleaning job is done
- Fixed issues that delayed or prevented the Clean Map from appearing in the cleaning history report
Cleaning jobs
-
- Improved accuracy of charge times for Smart Charge & Resume with updates to estimating space remaining, and estimating charge remaining as batteries age
- Fixed a bug where robot immediately got "Error 48, path blocked" during Tidy-Up jobs
- Fixed an issue where babies found a sneaky way to temporarily bypass Child & Pet Lock, even though it was technically still on
- Fixed several causes of error 15, which causes the job to end early and robot to reboot
- Made general improvements to docking
- Fixed a bug where the robot became neurotic about emptying its bin frequently, cried wolf with an abundance of bin full errors, and sometimes even reported error 36
- Fixed a bug where the robot thought it was having error 36, when it was actually having trouble communicating with the Dock
Roomba Combo® j7
-
- Improved Roomba Combo® j7’s ability to move away from carpets and continue vacuuming + mopping at the same time
- If the robot is having trouble determining floor type, it now switches to vacuuming only until it completes that room or zone, and then resets its carpet sensors to enable vacuuming & mopping as needed
- Fixed a bug where the Roomba Combo® j7 was spraying liquid before the pad came down
- Fixed a bug to ensure accurate clean time estimates for Vacuum + Mopping jobs
Version 23.12
Rollout Start Date: June 22, 2023

Roomba Combo® j7 Accurate tank level reporting
-
- We’ve updated j7 Combo®’s software to do a more accurate job of detecting the water level in the tank. This will optimize messaging that lets you know when it’s time to fill up your tank so your robot can continue to vacuum and mop simultaneously. Run out of water anyways? Your robot will still switch to vacuuming only, like it did before.
Improved charging reliability
-
- We improved your robot's ability to make a secure connection with its charging station to charge, even as debris build-up on the metal contacts is partially obstructing things. We still recommend periodically cleaning your charging contacts using our maintenance tips guidelines.
So long “phantom map space”
-
- Have you ever noticed your robot added a long narrow mystery space to your map? We fixed that. Your robot will now do a better job of realizing when it has accidentally added phantom space to your map and will trim it off before you even see it.
- This release prevents new phantom spaces from being added. If you have a map that already has a phantom space, and you want to remove it, you can delete that map and remap your space. We recommend doing this with a mapping run (faster, does not clean), but you can also choose a Clean Everywhere job (slower, but cleans at the same time). Remapping is optional! If you are happy with your map, just keep cleaning as always.
Vanquished some bugs
Mapping
-
- Fixed a bug where the robot had trouble adding new space to your Imprint™ Smart Map when the new space was located in the middle of your floor plan
- Fixed a bug where auto room naming didn’t happen, instead labeling all rooms in new maps as “Unnamed room”
- Fixed a bug that was making your room names disappear and be replaced with “Unnamed Room”
- Fixed a map bug that could cause Roomba Combo® j7 to ignore No Mop Zones and accidentally mop where you didn’t want it to
Cleaning and navigation
-
- Fixed a bug that would lead to the cleaning job ending immediately after starting
- Manually placing the robot in a room to clean? We fixed a bug where the robot was disregarding your room choice and starting by roaming off to other rooms.
- Fixed a bug in j7 Combo® jobs that were switching to vacuum only, even when there was enough liquid left in the tank to continue mopping and vacuuming
- Fixed a bug where robots were cleaning rooms in a different order than you asked them to
- Fixed a bug where robots were re-cleaning areas they had already cleaned
- Fixed a bug where the robot was not doing mid-job recharge long enough to complete its job
Other
-
- Fixed several causes of unexpected reboots (error 15)
- Fixed a bug that delayed or prevented messages about a vacuum hardware failure (Errors 26 & 30)
Version 22.52
Rollout Start Date: March 1, 2023

Mapping Runs: More efficient than ever
-
- Roomba will now pick up where it left off if a mapping run is interrupted. This might happen if it couldn’t reach part of your space because of a closed door or sandworm blocking its way or if you needed to stop the robot while you watch Dune. Instead of retracing its steps, it will search for unknown areas and add them to the existing map.
Stay charged up
-
- We improved Roomba’s ability to stay charged on its charging station, so it’s always ready to go when you need it. Roomba has improved navigation when approaching and docking on the charging station and will give an extra little push to make sure it’s secure. It will also do a better job of redocking if it accidentally gets bumped off its charging station. To ensure optimal performance, we recommend following our basic care tips for the dock.
Mapping: overhauled for speed
-
- We went back to the drawing board and created our fastest map-making algorithm ever
- Need to take a call before mapping is complete? No problem. Roomba will pick up where it left off in the next mapping run.
Squashed some bugs
By squashed, we mean set them free outside
-
- Fixed a bug that prevented Braava m6 from starting its part of a Linked Cleaning job
- Resolved a problem that prevented the light ring from turning off in some Roomba i7s
- Fixed a map bug that would lead Roomba to try (unsuccessfully) to get through a wall
- If you do a Mapping Run to add to a map you already have, Roomba now stays out of any existing keep-out zones
- Fixed a bug that could cause a Mapping Run to end before it was done
- Fixed a bug which could cause Roomba to clean rooms in the wrong order during Directed Room Cleaning
- Fixed bug where Roomba would return to a room after it was skipped
- Fixed a bug where job History in the iRobot HOME App displays “Unable to empty the bin: communication problem”, when everything was actually fine

New sound when you place Roomba to charge
-
- Next time you physically place Roomba onto its dock, it will play a sound to let you know it’s in the right place and ready to charge. If you’re still having trouble with this, make sure the silver charging contacts are lined up and there’s not too much residue build-up on them<.
Improved room detection with new maps
-
- Next time Roomba creates a new Imprint™ Smart Map, the room dividers it creates will match up better to what you see in your home. J7 and J7 Combo® will get this improvement first.
Smarter navigation in crowded spaces
-
- We’re continuing to improve Roomba’s iAdapt® 3.0 intelligent navigation technology. Roomba does a better job of skipping places it can’t reach and finding its way out of crowded spaces. Rearranging furniture? No problem.
Improved cleaning direction across rooms
-
- When Roomba does one pass’ cleaning, it detects the shape of the room and cleans lengthwise rather than spend more time making lots of turns across the shorter width. Larger rooms get cleaned in sections. Roomba has always had this feature; it just does it a little better now. Let’s just say it does a better job of “reading the room”.
Better docking
-
- Precise docking is critical to reliable charging. This release brings several improvements to Roomba i7’s docking that help it get and stay securely on the charging station. You may notice Roomba moving to find the best spot on the dock for charging. If you notice your robot still has trouble charging, it might just need a little care and maintenance.
